AI Changes How Leaks are Monitored in Data Centers
With the growth of AI, chip density and power demands in data centers are increasing exponentially. More power means more heat, so to avoid equipment failures and unexpected downtime, liquid cooling solutions are quickly becoming the norm.
Direct-to-chip cooling is a highly efficient method of keeping critical mechanisms within operating temperatures, but it also means data center operations are exposed to new risks.
Robust Leak Detection is Essential.
Coolant leak detection has always been a vital part of data center operations, but as liquid cooling needs become more complex, leak detection must also evolve to encompass the intricate networks of flow valves involved in direct-to-chip cooling. Now more than ever, data centers need robust and accessible liquid cooling leak detection solutions that offer comprehensive coverage and immediate alerts.
Parameter’s Distributed Architecture Solution
Parameter empowers data centers with leak detection technology that meets the high demands of direct-to-chip cooling. As liquid cooling techniques have become more advanced and efficient, so have our products. Parameter technology, powered by RLE Leak Detection, prioritizes accuracy, reliability, and flexibility to meet the changing needs of data centers as they adopt liquid cooling methods.
Per-Rack Control
Our leak detection solution provides each server rack with its own LD1500 controller, mounted discreetly within the cabinet manifold and connected to the flow valve to immediately halt coolant flow the instant a leak is detected to prevent server damage. One controller per control valve provides robust and scalable leak detection for facilities investing in direct-to-chip cooling.
The LD1500 distance-read controller monitors up to 1500 ft of fluid sensing cable, which can be routed under the rack, along the liquid cooling manifold, and following the server supply tubing to ensure full coverage alongside fast and accurate leak detection.
Aggregate with Rack Monitoring
For a streamlined and unified system, the LD5200 controller can aggregate alerts/status updates from up to 128 LD1500 controllers into a single pane of glass. One of the most robust and feature-rich distance-read leak detectors on the market, the LD5200 includes an LCD touchscreen and can be configured for direct alarm notification via email, making it the perfect solution for organizations with high data demands.
This controller interfaces via Modbus, BACnet, SNMP, and web interface for seamless BMS integration.
The LD1500: Rack-Level Monitoring
Parameter’s LD1500 controller is the foundation of our specialized leak detection platform. It is discreet and streamlined enough to be mounted in the cabinet manifold at a ratio of one controller per valve to detect coolant leaks, accurately pinpoint their location, and send an immediate alert.
Distance-Read Leak Detection
The LD1500 supports all Parameter leak detection sensors, and enables the full functionality of our conductive fluid sensing cable. It functions as a supervised system that continuously monitors all connected spot detectors and sensing cables for leaks, breaks, and disconnects.
As a distance-read controller, the LD1500 can pinpoint the location of a leak within 0.5% of the connected sensing cable’s length. Acting as a dedicated rack controller within our distributed architecture, the LD1500 can identify exactly which server is affected by a leak and which coolant pipes are responsible. This level of accuracy enables fast leak mitigation in an environment where conductive hazards have cascading effects.
The LD5200: Consolidated Control
The LD5200 makes Parameter’s leak detection solution practical for large-scale distributed architecture by consolidating critical information across operations. This advanced distance-read controller can aggregate alerts and status updates from up to 128 LD1500 controllers, functioning as a unified leak detection interface in high-density facilities.
Seamless Access
Data centers deploying distributed architecture need simplified systems that won’t interfere with regular operations. Like all Parameter products, the LD5200 is engineered for easy and minimally invasive integration via Modbus, BACnet, SNMP, and web interface.
The self-hosted web interface features an interactive facility mapping tool that displays an interaction overlay on top of an uploaded floor map image to indicate the precise location of a leak, enabling quick threat resolution even in complex facilities with extensive server infrastructure.
The LD5200 can be easily configured into any ecosystem to match the alert infrastructure of the system it serves. Native protocol conversion enables it to function as an extension of the connected Building Management System (BMS). The controller can be configured as a Modbus client to send flow valve shutoff requests instantly through your system administrator, or function out of the box with instant email notifications.
